Meeting between foreign ministers of Egypt, Greece, Cyprus held in Cairo

CAIRO – 15 September 2018: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Greek and Cypriot counterparts Friday to discuss preparations for the next summit to be held on Crete Island in Greece this year, according to Saturday’s statement by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The meeting comes within the framework of the three ministries’ keenness to coordinate in order to enhance relations between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus which constitute an important strategic base in the region, Rady’s statement added.

The meeting also discussed energy cooperation projects in the framework of recent hydrocarbon discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean region and their strategic importance, as well as cooperation and exchange of experiences in olive growing, fishing, industry, and information technology.

Shoukry stressed Egypt’s high priority for strategic relations with Athens and Nicosia. The Foreign Ministers of Greece and Cyprus expressed their appreciation for the various frameworks of tripartite cooperation with Egypt especially with regard to the development of economic relations.

The meeting also discussed several joint projects such as the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean projects that promote stability in the region.
