On 1st day of school: child falls from 3rd floor due to stampede

CAIRO - 24 September 2018: A nine-year-old student was killed after he fell from the third floor at a primary school in Dakahlia governorate (Delta) on the first day of school due to stampede on Sunday.

Three teachers are set to be investigated over the child’s death at al-Zahraa primary school in Belqas city, while the principle was suspended, said Deputy Minister of Education in Dakahlia, Ali Abdel Raouf.

According to the initial investigations, the child, Ibrahim Mohamed Hassan Abd Rabu, lives in Ahmadia Abu Al-faotuh village in B he fell on his head from the third floor due to students’ stampede during the break.

He had severe brain hemorrhage that led to his tragic death. The authorities will file a complaint to the public prosecution in order to finalize the investigations.

Twenty-two million students of all grades returned back to around 55,000 schools nationwide, according to a statement by the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Interior intensified security measures in the vicinity of the schools, according to a statement by the ministry on Sunday.

At Cairo Metro, which connects Greater Cairo with Giza governorate, more police personnel, particularly women police, were deployed to combat harassment, the statement said.
