Higher education min. meets Japanese counterpart, vice president of JICA

CAIRO – 10 October 2018: Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Wednesday, Oct. 10 with his Japanese counterpart Yuriko Koike to discuss the establishment of technological universities in Egypt in the coming period.

During the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar praised the Egyptian-Japanese relations in various fields especially in education, research and culture, pointing out Egypt’s keenness to boost cooperation with Japanese universities to benefit from the Japanese experience.

For her side, Koike stressed Japan s keenness to maintain constant communication and strengthen relations with Egypt, especially in the education field, because of its significance in human development.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar signed a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt and the University of Tokyo which aims to train the cadres of universities.

Also, Abdel Ghaffar met with vice president of JICA (International Cooperation for Middle East Affairs) to discuss the mechanisms of cooperation between Egypt and Japan in the field of education and to tackle ways of cooperation in the field of technological universities.

The vice president of JICA praised the efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and lauded the achievements of the Egyptian-Japanese University.

Furthermore, Minister of Higher Education Abdel Ghaffar met with President of the Universities of Tokyo Makoto Gonokami during his visit to Japan in October to discuss mechanisms of cooperation in the field of education.
