Sisi visits Northern Military Region ahead of June 30 anniversary

CAIRO – 29 June 2018: Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited on Friday the headquarters of Northern Military Region in Alexandria where he performed the Friday prayer and met with Egyptian military leaders and officials.

The visit came only 24 hours prior to the country’s celebration of the fifth anniversary of June 30 protests that ousted former Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated President Mohamed Morsi.

Sisi discussed the latest developments taking place in the Northern Military Region with its Commander Ali Adel Ashmawi during the visit.

Several development projects affiliated with the Northern Military Region were implemented, including Mohamed Naguib military base, which is considered the biggest base in the Middle East and Africa.

Mohamed Naguib military base was inaugurated on July 22, 2017 in the presence of President Sisi and several Arab figures, including Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Arabian Saudi King s adviser, Prince Khaled al-Faysal bin Abdel Aziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince of Bahrain Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The president was accompanied in his visit by Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki and other military officials.

The official Facebook page of the Egyptian presidency released photos of Sisi’s visit.
